Facilities
The science faculty is housed in 9 dedicated laboratories.
Key Stage 3
Students study science for 3 lessons per week at KS3. In year 7 and 8 they follow a thematic scheme of work, written in collaboration with science consultants and science specialists from Blackburn with Darwen, Wigan and Bury. The year 9 students thematic scheme is now being prepared for delivery in 2010. Throughout the year students progress will be monitored by using assessment for learning and end of year examinations and all students are set based on ability.
Key Stage 4
At KS4 these are a variety of pathways that lead to science qualifications. Selected students will take three separate sciences leading to three GCSE’s or Core and Additional science leading to two GCSE’s. Others will study for a BTEC qualification in science.
