Welcome.... Hello and welcome to the PE page of the General Information The PE department is made up of six members of staff, three males and three females. We are led by Mr Jackson who runs a hard working, fun and successful department. Members of the department include; · Mr Jackson · Mr Hatton · Mr Hayes · Ms Porter · Mrs Waite · Miss Whittaker You may also see Miss Bateson around the department. Miss Bateson is our SSCO (school sports co-ordinator) her role within the department is to make links with local primary schools and Facilities · 2 x changing areas · 2 x offices · 2 x gymnasia · 1 x multi-fitness suite · 3 x football pitches · 4 x netball courts · 6 x tennis courts · 4 x rounder’s pitches · Access to the whole of What do we offer??? Each child is entitled to two hours of PE a week through what we call core PE. On top of this the following courses are on offer. · G.C.S.E PE- This is a popular course consisting of both a practical assessment and an examination. Last year, PE had a fantastic achievement when we achieved the highest G.C.S.E. results in the school. A magnificent 81% A-C. This is a standard which we now endeavour to uphold. · B-TEC SPORT- This is a coursework based course consisting of three units. There is no examination in B-TEC SPORT, but again there is some practical assessment. · Living for Sport- Living for sport takes a focal point for our KS3 students. It allows pupils to see other aspects of PE through something other than what the normal curriculum offers. · Year 8 Lakeside Trip- For one whole day Year 8 pupils are thrown into the world of outdoor and adventurous activities. Staff and pupils combine as they participate in numerous activities including canoeing, sailing, rock climbing and team building. A real treat. · Sports Day- The highlight of the year.
Extra-Curricular Activities The PE department offers extra-curricular activities for all pupils. Whether you fancy football, netball, rounder’s, basketball, weights, street dance, cheer-leading, gymnastics or cricket we have something for you to do. Below is a timetable for you to take a look at. Club Links As well as a full team of staff running extra-curricular activities, we also have specialist coaches in to help improve our pupils. Here is a list of just a few of the coaches who come to help us here at Witton. · Nicola Smith- Gymnastics coach · Alex Ainsworth- West coast hip hop champion · Chloe Smith- Regional netball player We also have links to local clubs in the area for netball, cricket, rugby and football.
